Senior Farm Manager (2IC) – Large-Scale Pastured Poultry Operation

Location: Near Nanyuki, Laikipia County, Kenya

Farmer Max is a rapidly growing regenerative agriculture company producing premium pasture-raised poultry in Kenya. Across three farms in Laikipia County, we raise approximately 250,000 broiler chickens annually on pasture, operating a large- scale pastured poultry system while restoring soil health and creating meaningful employment in rural communities.

The business employs just under 100 people, mostly from the surrounding local community, and demand for our product continues to grow rapidly. The farms are located in the beautiful Laikipia highlands of central Kenya, between Mount Kenya and the Great Rift Valley.

We are seeking a Senior Farm Manager (2IC) to become the second-in-command of farm operations, helping lead daily production and support the continued expansion of the business.

We are looking for a practical farm leader who is comfortable working outdoors, managing livestock, and solving day-to-day operational challenges in a hands-on farming environment.

The Role

This is a hands-on leadership role combining livestock management, team leadership, and operational oversight. The Farm Manager will work closely with the founder to oversee daily operations across three farm sites, support team development, and continuously improve production systems.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working outdoors, managing teams, solving practical problems, and building a regenerative farming system at scale.

Key Responsibilities

Farm Operations

  • Oversee daily management of a large-scale pastured broiler chicken operation across three farm locations
  • Manage brooding, pasture rotations, bird placement, and harvest schedules
  • Maintain excellent standards of animal welfare and flock health
  • Monitor production metrics including feed usage, growth rates, and mortality

Team Leadership

  • Supervise and support a team of farm staff
  • Coordinate daily work plans and task allocation
  • Train staff and maintain a strong team culture

Production & Systems

  • Improve operational efficiency and farm systems as the business grows
  • Assist with production planning and scaling operations
  • Monitor farm data and key performance indicators Maintenance & Logistics
  • Oversee maintenance of farm equipment and infrastructure
  • Maintain and repair farm infrastructure and equipment where practical, including fencing, water systems, and mobile poultry housing
  • Coordinate supplies including feed, chicks, and materials

Candidate Profile

This role is best suited to someone with a strong practical farming background who enjoys solving problems and keeping farm systems running smoothly.

  • Background in agriculture, livestock production, or farm management
  • Strong practical and mechanical problem-solving skills
  • Experience managing teams in a farm or agricultural environment
  • A hands-on approach to farming and equipment maintenance
  • Confidence working outdoors and dealing with day-to-day operational challenges
  • Strong organisational and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative
  • Willingness to live and work in rural Kenya

Poultry experience is beneficial but not essential for the right candidate.

Candidates with a practical farming background and experience maintaining farm equipment will be particularly well suited to this role.
